Personalized Acne Treatments in McLean and Northern Virginia
Acne is not one-size-fits-all, and neither is acne treatment. Breakouts can be influenced by excess oil, clogged pores, bacteria, inflammation, hormones, skincare products, and other factors. The right treatment depends on your skin type, the type and severity of your acne, and whether you are concerned about active breakouts, lingering discoloration, or acne scars.
At Sanctuary Cosmetic Center, we offer customized, non-surgical acne treatments designed to improve skin clarity, reduce congestion, calm inflammation, and support healthier-looking skin. After evaluating your skin, one of our licensed Master Estheticians will recommend a personalized treatment plan based on your needs and goals.
What Acne Concerns Can We Address?
Our customized acne treatments may help improve:
- Mild to moderate active acne
- Inflamed or recurring breakouts
- Blackheads, whiteheads, and clogged pores
- Excess oil and congestion
- Post-acne redness
- Post-inflammatory discoloration
- Uneven skin texture
- Certain types of acne scars
Because active acne, discoloration, and acne scars are different concerns, your treatment plan may include one procedure or a carefully selected combination of treatments.
Forever Clear BBL® for Active Acne
Forever Clear BBL uses BroadBand Light technology to address several factors associated with inflammatory acne. The treatment uses specific wavelengths of light to target acne-causing bacteria, reduce visible inflammation and redness, and support the skin’s natural healing process.
This non-invasive treatment may be appropriate for teenagers and adults experiencing mild to moderate inflammatory acne or persistent breakouts. Treatments are generally comfortable and require little to no downtime, although temporary redness or sensitivity may occur.
Most patients benefit from a series of treatments rather than a single session. The recommended number and frequency will depend on the severity of the acne and how the skin responds.
Customized Chemical Peels for Acne and Congested Skin
Chemical peels exfoliate dead surface cells that can contribute to clogged pores, excess oil, dullness, and uneven texture. Depending on the formula selected, a customized peel may help:
- Unclog congested pores
- Reduce excess surface oil
- Improve blackheads and mild breakouts
- Fade the appearance of post-acne discoloration
- Smooth rough or uneven skin texture
- Support a clearer, more balanced complexion
Chemical peels are available in different strengths, and not every peel is appropriate for every skin type. Our providers will select the formulation and depth based on your skin tone, sensitivity, acne activity, and treatment goals.
Some patients experience mild redness, dryness, or flaking after treatment. Stronger peels may require additional downtime.

Acne Facials and Professional Extractions
Our customized acne facials are designed to deeply cleanse, gently exfoliate, and rebalance congested or breakout-prone skin. Depending on your needs, treatment may include steam, professional extractions, calming products, hydration, and acne-focused skincare ingredients.
Acne facials may be especially helpful for:
- Blackheads and whiteheads
- Clogged or enlarged-looking pores
- Mild to moderate breakouts
- Oily or congested skin
- Maintaining results between other acne treatments
Extractions are performed only when appropriate to minimize unnecessary irritation and reduce the risk of damaging the skin.
Treatments for Post-Acne Marks and Acne Scars
Once active breakouts are adequately controlled, we can evaluate the redness, discoloration, or textural changes left behind by acne.
Post-acne redness and dark marks are not necessarily true scars. Depending on the concern, we may recommend BBL, chemical peels, medical-grade skincare, or another targeted treatment.
Depressed or textural acne scars may require a different approach, potentially involving treatments such as RF microneedling, resurfacing, or combination therapy. Treating active acne first is important because controlling new breakouts helps reduce the risk of additional scarring.
Which Acne Treatment Is Right for Me?
Your treatment will depend on several factors, including:
- Whether your acne is inflammatory or primarily congested
- The severity and frequency of your breakouts
- Your skin tone and sensitivity
- Whether you have active acne, discoloration, scarring, or a combination
- Your current skincare routine and medications
- Your preferred downtime and treatment schedule
During your consultation, we will examine your skin, discuss your history and goals, and develop a practical treatment plan. Professional treatments may also be combined with a consistent home skincare routine to support and maintain your results.
Severe, cystic, painful, or hormonally driven acne may require evaluation and medical management by a dermatologist. When appropriate, we may recommend that professional aesthetic treatments be coordinated with medical acne care.
