FACELIFTS

Rejuvenate the Entire Face

What is a Facelift?

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is performed alone or with a neck lift. It rejuvenates the sagginess in the middle of the face and jowls. When combined with a neck lift, the entire face and neck are rejuvenated, resulting in drastic improvement of the signs of aging in the entire face and neck area. It covers the lower eyelids, improving deep wrinkles down to the folds running on both sides of the nose and the corners of the mouth. In order to achieve this, Dr. Rostami will place her incision around the ears and down to the hairline. This allows her to lift the skin from the face and cheeks, re-drape it, and trim the excess skin. The result is a smooth, tight, and rejuvenated face and jawline.

Why Sanctuary Cosmetic Center?

At Sanctuary Cosmetic Center, Dr. Rostami performs all facelift surgeries at our Tysons location. Patients seeking a consultation for facelift surgery in Tysons and Northern Virginia will enjoy a thorough consultation with Dr. Rostami. The consultation will consist of a range of questions to ascertain your needs and determine whether you need a facelift or a combination approach. Dr. Rostami will discuss your options, measure your face from a facial plastic surgeon’s perspective, and review your procedure’s potential outcomes, benefits, and risks. She will then suggest the right surgical approach for you.

“This was my second consultation with Dr. Rostami. She was very personable, made great recommendations, and did not try to “up sell” me on anything. I feel very confident in her hands for my upcoming procedures.”

Am I A Good Candidate for Facelift?

You are a candidate for facelift surgery if you have the following:

  • Sagging facial skin in the lower two-thirds of your face
  • Lost skin elasticity in your lower face that has left you with sagging jowls and cheeks
  • Lost fat in your face that has left you with loose, empty facial skin
  • Deep wrinkles under your lower lids

Benefits of the Facelift

Healthy patients between the ages of 35 and 70 can best reap the benefits of a facelift. Your results are enhanced when you have realistic expectations, adding to your self-confidence and well-being. With the average results of a facelift lasting close to ten years or more, investing in a facelift should be a once-in-a-lifetime investment for a younger look that positively impacts how you feel about yourself. As with any type of surgical procedure, infection, unfavorable scarring, bleeding, skin loss, and swelling are some risks associated with facelift surgery. Risks of anesthesia should be discussed with your anesthesiologist. Risks that are specific to facelift surgery will be discussed with you during your consultation.

The Facelift Procedure

At Sanctuary Cosmetic Center, Dr. Rostami will perform your surgery on-site in our state-of-the-art, certified surgical suite under intravenous sedation on an outpatient basis. On average, your facelift procedure could take 2-4 hours.

Our patients from the Northern Virginia, McLean, and Tysons areas (and around the nation) seek Dr. Rostami for other techniques and approaches to a traditional facelift, which she also performs:

  • Mid-Facelift: A mid-facelift concentrates more on the triangular area formed between the two corners of the eyes and the corners of the mouth. By working on the deeper layers of your face, Dr. Rostami repositions the underlying fat and muscles so that the middle of your face is pulled up while still looking natural. A mid-facelift can be done alone or along with a traditional facelift.
  • Lower Facelift: A lower facelift is perfect for jowls, frown lines, wrinkles, and loose facial skin. Incisions are limited to the front and back of the ears, making recovery easier than with a traditional facelift.
  • Mini Facelift: A mini facelift is ideal for patients with less severe wrinkling, sagging, and jowls. It involves smaller incisions and requires less recovery time.

Facelift Results

Most patients require one to two weeks of recovery after a facelift, although this can be dependent on the type of facelift. Swelling and bruising are common, and you may not feel comfortable returning to public for about three weeks. During this time, avoid strenuous activities and focus on resting. Dr. Rostami will provide detailed aftercare instructions to guide your recovery process. With proper aftercare, a facelift can last for many years to come.

How can I tell if a facelift is the right procedure for my concerns?

If you are struggling with sagging skin, jowls, and deep wrinkles and folds, a facelift is likely the right procedure for you. That said, you also need to be in good overall health, have realistic expectations of your results, not be pregnant or breastfeeding, and be a nonsmoker.

Am I an ideal candidate for a full facelift, mini facelift, or neck lift?

Whether you’re an ideal candidate for a full facelift, mini facelift, or neck lift will depend on the concerns you’re struggling with and the results you’re looking for. If you have significant sagging and deep folds in the mid and lower part of your face, a full facelift is likely the right procedure for you. If you simply have sagging skin along your lower face and jawline, a mini facelift may be a better option. If most of your concerns are in the neck area, a neck lift is likely the best option.

How do I prepare for facelift surgery at Sanctuary?

To prepare for facelift surgery, you’ll first want to have a consultation with Dr. Rostami to determine if this is the right procedure for you. Once that determination is made, she will give you a detailed list of instructions to prepare you for your procedure. You may need to stop taking certain medications. You’ll also need to abstain from alcohol and smoking and stick to a healthy diet and exercise regimen. We also recommend scheduling a friend or family member to drive you to and from our office on the day of surgery.

What kind of anesthesia will be used during my facelift procedure?

General anesthesia is typically used to ensure you’re comfortable during your facelift procedure. With general anesthesia, you won’t feel a thing. We only use board certified anesthesiologists in our AAAHC accredited surgical center.

What should I expect in terms of downtime and recovery?

It typically takes two weeks of downtime and recovery before you are ready to get back to a more normal level of activity. At that point, a significant amount of swelling and bruising will have subsided, and you’ll be able to start to see your results. During these beginning weeks, you will need to rest and avoid strenuous activity as much as possible.

When will I see my final results, and how long will they last?

It can take up to a full year before you see the final results of your facelift surgery. At that stage, any residual swelling will be gone. As for how long your results last, they can stick around for up to a decade.

What are the risks and potential complications associated with facelifts?

As with any surgical procedure, a facelift comes with risks as well. Some of the risks to look out for include infection, bleeding, nerve damage, numbness, and skin sensitivity. But with an experienced surgeon like Dr. Rostami, these risks are relatively rare.

Can facelifts be combined with other procedures, such as eyelid surgery or fat grafting?

Absolutely! A facelift is a perfect procedure to combine with other surgeries like eyelid surgery or fat grafting. By combining procedures, you can achieve a full facial transformation and only have to go through one recovery period.

Will I have visible scarring after a facelift, and how can I minimize it?

Dr. Rostami will place your incisions along your hairline and in the natural creases of the face (like in front of or behind the ear) to ensure any scarring is as invisible as possible. To further minimize scarring, you’ll want to follow all your aftercare instructions, avoid excess sun exposure, and use any provided topical scar treatments.

How do I know whether a surgical facelift is right for me versus a non-surgical alternative?

During your consultation, Dr. Rostami will give you all your options and help you determine if a surgical or non-surgical treatment is right for you. Generally, if you have significant sagging and deep folds in the skin, a surgical facelift is likely right for you. If your concerns are mild to moderate or you don’t want to go under the knife, non-surgical alternatives may be a better option.
