What is IPL therapy?

Intense pulsed light therapy is a nonsurgical treatment that uses varying wavelengths of light pulses to restore skin to its natural state. IPL therapy is highly effective at treating uneven tone and texture, from fine lines and wrinkles to sun damage.

Sanctuary Cosmetic Center uses BBL™ BroadBand Light technology to target a variety of skin concerns without damaging the surface layer of your skin.

What can IPL therapy treat?

IPL therapy with BBL technology breaks up pigmentation and enhances the texture of your skin, leaving it smooth and clear. It can significantly improve the following skin complaints:

  • Brown spots
  • Sun damage
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Unwanted hair
  • Rosacea
  • Vascular lesions
  • Redness
  • Freckles
  • Hyperpigmentation

If you’re constantly covering unwanted pigmentation and dark lesions with makeup, IPL therapy can help freshen up your complexion.

How does IPL therapy work?

With BBL technology, IPL emits varying pulses of light directly into your skin. This targeted light energy gently heats the upper layers of your skin without damaging the surface layer.

Once the heating process begins, your targeted lesions, like brown spots, broken blood vessels, and pigmented lesions, absorb the light. Over time, the pigment breaks up, leaving your skin clear and radiant.

What makes this particular form of IPL therapy unique is that BBL technology has built-in thermoelectric sensors and a cooling system that allows Sanctuary Cosmetic Center to safely increase the amount of light energy used in your treatment.

Not only does this proprietary technology result in a more customized treatment, but it also requires fewer sessions than traditional IPL therapy.

How long does IPL therapy take?

Each IPL session typically takes between 20-30 minutes, making it the perfect lunch break treatment. Because IPL with BBL has a built-in cooling system, your treatment shouldn’t be painful. Like laser treatments, IPL is a relatively comfortable process that typically feels like a rubber band snapping against your skin.

It’s important to note that many people experience darkened lesions following IPL, but this change in color gradually fades.

How many IPL therapy treatments do I need?

You may notice visible results immediately after your first session, but Sanctuary Cosmetic Center recommends about 3-6 treatments (or 6-12 for hair removal) to achieve optimal results.

If you think you’re a good candidate for IPL therapy, call Sanctuary Cosmetic Center or book an appointment online today.
