What Sets Radiesse Apart From Other Dermal Fillers

What Sets Radiesse Apart From Other Dermal Fillers

Fillers remain one of the most popular minimally invasive cosmetic treatments in the United States, with millions of treatments performed every year.

Partly because of that popularity, the science of fillers has advanced rapidly, and today, you have several options for smoothing out lines and wrinkles, diminishing the look of scars, and restoring lost volume to your lips, cheeks, and other areas.

Radiesse® is one of those options, and although it may not be as well known as some of the other filler options, it can offer some significant benefits compared with other fillers.

At Sanctuary Cosmetic CenterSoheila Rostami, MD, FAAO, FAACS, and the team offer several filler options to help patients in McLean and Dulles, Virginia, get the results they’re looking for. In this post, learn what sets Radiesse apart from other dermal fillers.

It uses a different formulation

While Juvederm and Restylane use hyaluronic acid as their primary component, Radiesse comprises calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHa) microspheres in a gel-based solution. CaHa is a natural substance that’s found in bone tissue. Once injected, these tiny microspheres provide immediate lift and volume, smoothing lines and restoring volume for instantly visible results.

It can be a better choice for deep lines

Because of its tiny microspheres, Radiesse can be an especially good choice for deeper facial lines and folds. That includes the lines that extend from your nose to your mouth (nasolabial folds) and from your mouth to your chin (marionette lines), as well as wrinkles around your mouth and chin.

It’s effective for restoring volume — even in your hands

Radiesse is very good at restoring volume, which makes it a great choice for sagging or hollowed-out cheeks, sagging jaws, and other areas of your face where volume loss is a concern. It’s also approved for rejuvenating the backs of the hands, one of the first areas to show the signs of aging.

It’s longer lasting than many fillers

Because of its unique formulation, Radiesse lasts longer than many fillers. In most people, Radiesse maintains its results for at least a year and often much longer. The exact duration depends on where it’s used, how quickly your body breaks down the material, the amount injected, and other factors.

It promotes collagen development

Repeated use of many fillers helps promote collagen development by creating tiny microinjuries that spur healing. But Radiesse is different.

Researchers hypothesize that the structure of CaHa molecules forms a framework or scaffold for new collagen development, enhancing collagen formation beyond the simulation caused by the actual injection process. In a recent study, researchers found the use of CaHa was associated with significant increases in new collagen formation.
