What is breast augmentation?

How should I prepare for surgery?

Avoid taking certain medications before surgery if your surgeon recommends it and don’t smoke. Avoid foods and drinks the morning of surgery.

What happens during breast augmentation?

Just before breast augmentation, you receive general anesthesia so you’re asleep during the procedure. Your surgeon makes an incision at the curve of your areola or along the lower fold of your breast. They gently insert breast implants and close the incision. 

During autologous fat transfer, your surgeon completes liposuction in other areas of your body and injects the fat into your breasts. 

After breast augmentation, you recover in a separate room.

What should I expect during my recovery?

Breast augmentation is usually an outpatient procedure, so you can head home after the anesthesia wears off and your doctor gives you the okay. Have a friend or family member drive you home.

Complete recovery often takes about 7-10 days. During this time, avoid strenuous physical activity and take medications as prescribed. Follow all post-surgery instructions and attend any follow-up appointments with your surgical team.
