Breast Augmentation Q&A

What is breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation at Sanctuary Cosmetic Center is a procedure in which your cosmetic surgeon surgically places breast implants under skin or muscles in your breasts. The result is an improvement in the size and shape of your breasts.

Is breast augmentation right for me?

To find out if you’re a good candidate for breast augmentation, your provider discusses your medical history and desired outcome. They also complete a physical exam.

Breast augmentation might be a good option if you:

  • Have breast asymmetry
  • Are unhappy with the shape or size of your breasts
  • Are in good overall health
  • Understand the risks and benefits of surgery
  • Have misaligned nipples and areolas
  • Experience low self-esteem because of your breasts
  • Aren’t currently pregnant or nursing
  • Desire better body proportions

For many women, breast augmentation improves the way they feel about their body, which is beneficial for their overall physical and mental health.

What are the different types of breast augmentation?

Your surgeon discusses various breast augmentation procedures with you to find one that’s a good fit for your needs. Sanctuary Cosmetic Center offers saline breast implants, silicone implants, and autologous fat injections, or fat grafting, using fat from other areas of your body.

How should I prepare for surgery?

To get ready for breast augmentation, follow your pre-surgery instructions. You’ll meet with the Sanctuary Cosmetic Center providers to choose the type and size of breast implants you desire.

Avoid taking certain medications before surgery if your surgeon recommends it and don’t smoke. Avoid foods and drinks the morning of surgery.

What happens during breast augmentation?

Just before breast augmentation, you receive general anesthesia so you’re asleep during the procedure. Your surgeon makes an incision at the curve of your areola or along the lower fold of your breast. They gently insert breast implants and close the incision.

During autologous fat transfer, your surgeon completes liposuction in other areas of your body and injects the fat into your breasts.

After breast augmentation, you recover in a separate room.

What should I expect during my recovery?

Breast augmentation is usually an outpatient procedure, so you can head home after the anesthesia wears off and your doctor gives you the okay. Have a friend or family member drive you home.

Complete recovery often takes about 7-10 days. During this time, avoid strenuous physical activity and take medications as prescribed. Follow all post-surgery instructions and attend any follow-up appointments with your surgical team.

Don’t live with small or asymmetrical breasts when you don’t have to. Schedule a breast augmentation consultation at Sanctuary Cosmetic Center by phone or online today.
